The fish finger, do fish really have fingers? Now let’s not be silly about this, we all know they don’t and what fish fingers are. Fish fingers tend to have a reputation of easy meals, something to give the children with perhaps mash or chips. And now of course, apparently fish fingers have come into their own right with the mention on a certain modern sci-fi TV series, something to do with a doctor and a who. Served of course with custard. I kid you not. Not something I am about to try, nor advocate.
Instead of all that nonsense Birds Eye have designed a macho fish finger, suitable for major sandwiches and more adult like. The Chunky Fish Finger.
So I left this tasting challenge up to my 16 year old son and his friend. Appetites worth writing about. And they tend to consider all meal making an aim to create something as tasty as possible with what is at hand. Amusing, yet worrying at times. However I trusted them with this one.
The perfect opportunity came about last weekend. I was away all day with my daughter, and food was on a “help yourself” basis”. I’d said what was available. Rhys is capable of making fabulous food and I trust him in the kitchen, so I wasn’t worried with the outcome.
The chunky fish fingers are ideal for us, as they cook in the oven. I much prefer this method to frying or even grilling. They are notably much chunkier than average fish fingers and longer too. Made with flaky fish chunks rather than minced fish, which is always a preference.
They cooked well without any fuss. Rhys and his friend decided on some ingredients from the fridge to made their sandwiches. Lettuce, tomato, onion, tartare sauce, and white bread.
The chunky fish fingers were a perfect size for the bread, filling right up to the edges. Four in each sandwich. Ideal. With them being chunkier than usual they are more filling, so the sandwiches were a good filler food.
Birds Eye recommend using these fish fingers for sandwiches or as part of a family meal. Here are some further tasty sounding suggestions for sandwiches:

Fuss Free Living Ratings Birds Eye Chunky Fish Fingers
Taste 4/5 They have the same standard you expect from Birds Eye products, and the crispy breadcrumb coating is tasty.
Value 3/5 A reasonable price for fish fingers, however not something I would buy regularly. Value wise, it’s a little steep. I would buy these for having in for “help yourself” meals and snack times for the children.
Convenience 5/5 Easy to cook, easy to make a meal with. You cannot go wrong with these chunky fish fingers.
