There is always time to get creative, and what better time than half term. We’re in the middle of our week break from school, and with the weather being decidedly colder and wetter now, we’re doing much more inside. There has been opportunity to introduce Jasper to drawing. Before now he hasn’t owned his own drawing materials, and not had much chance to try any out. There was great anticipation from the young man when he was shown a box of Faber-Castell chunky crayons.
The crayons come in their own sturdy plastic box, with a clip that Jasper soon managed to open. His little fingers straight in, selecting the colour he so desired. It didn’t take him long to put colour to paper and there has been no stopping him since.
There is a nice selection of a variety of colour, enough to create Jasper’s trucks and cars, including white and black. The crayons are a rounded triangular shape which is great for little fingers to hold well. Ergonomically desirable. The crayons don’t need much pressure to draw and are strong in colour.
Of course I had my concerns once Jasper had been set free to create. One of which him not keeping his drawing to the paper I had provided. Sure enough there were a few marks on the coffee table and later I found some colourful décor to his highchair. However this was easily wiped off with some normal kitchen spray cleaner.
Jasper has been using the crayons for over a week now and they are still going strong, and still as popular with him. He must have them out on a daily basis and thus we have an entire Jasper gallery now of various cars and trucks as he tells me they are.
The storage box means that when he’s finished with them he can put them back for safe keeping. Much appreciated.
Also available from Faber-Castell is a paint block set.
This is a twelve piece block paint set, including a brush, a small tube of Chinese white, and a mixing tray. All set out in a strong and tidy storage box with a lid. Great for school, or storing at home.
The colours are wonderfully vibrant, yet when watered down can be painted on with a watercolour effect. I was very impressed with the quality of the paints, unlike other block paint sets I’ve used in the past that haven’t been that great. These definitely do the job, and well.
Unfortunately they aren’t suitable for Jasper to have free reign with due to the small parts, but Neets and I intend on trying them out on some projects before Christmas. Neets being a enthusiastic artist at the moment has been very interested in this set.
